THE VOICE CALLING YOU HOME
Take off your dusty traveller's clothes
Take off your dusty traveller's clothes
leave them right there on the road
Someone will run you a long hot bath
and say, you can soak as long as you need
Hear the knocking on your soul
asking you to answer the door
Leave your taskmaster's clothes on the doorstep
as someone has laid out your artist's clothes
They are clean and bright
smelling expectant and new
waiting patiently here for you
Someone has turned back and warmed your bed
fragrant pillows welcome you in
An old familiar voice hums to you soft and low
And sings
Do you not know how fine you are?
Do you not know how fine?
It's time to come home and rest my friend
It's time to come in from the cold
Sometimes it's hard to trust the restless voice that wants to take us back home to ourselves. We feel we are too busy, others need us, it's a waste of time or other things are more important. Our wild nature calls to all of us at times. We need to listen and follow our inner voice. It starts a quiet whisper in our ear. If we do not listen and follow our inner voice, it becomes chatter inside our head; unheeded, it becomes a roaring. And if we do not listen still, we become disconnected, depressed and sick.
It is an ancient voice and it knows where it is taking us. When followed, this voice, this stirring, can take us to a quiet retreat, a creative project, study, travel, or on a spiritual quest. It may ask us to simplify, say no, forgive, rest, change or to heal.
Hear that voice.
Hear that voice.
